Volvo, Geely working on shared architecture

Geely and its Volvo ward are working at developing a new compact car architecture that will be shared by both companies. For Volvo, this means a smaller luxury car, possibly a few. The platform will be modular, as is practically required in this day and age, ready to underpin different body styles or—if need be—an entirely new lineup.

Electric cars produce MORE CO2 than petrol or diesel cars

Rather than offering a low CO2 alternative to the internal combustion engine, it seems electric cars start their life with an extra 40,000 miles worth of CO2 already on the clock. The extended range electric vehicle, unveiled at the recent 2009 Geneva motor show, will go on sale here in late 2011 and marketing bosses say the UK is more accepting of hybrids and alternative vehicles than other markets. It’s not clear at this stage how much the Ampera will cost in the UK, but we’re looking at a likely cost around £20,000.
